Eclipse in Nine Parts
In 2004, when I was 12 years old, I took a summer astronomy class taught by a professor at one of our local colleges. We learned about the planets, the stars, the speed of light, but what I remember most was his lesson on the sun.
"Now," he said, "the next solar eclipse viewable from New York will be in 2024. By then you'll all be adults. You'll have some money in your pocket, maybe you'll be married. Promise me you all will go see it."
This is a promise kept.
